| The Plumbers and Pipefitters Local 25 began over 100 years ago in Moline under a charter known as Local 211. Through the years, charters were created and dissolved, and locals have merged, bringing what was originally a small local in Moline forward into the new millennium with over 1200 members. On July 14, 1900, the United Association issued a Charter to the Moline jurisdiction. This Charter was known as Local 211. Later that year, Rock Island established a chartered organization known as the International Association (I.A.), which had no affiliation with the United Association. On July 5, 1902, Local 113 was formed when the Rock Island Charter was dissolved and a Charter from the United Association was issued for the Rock Island jurisdiction. Through the years, Local 113 and Local 211 worked closely together. In spite of the possibilities of merging, they remained as separate locals. In 1939, Local 113 and Local 211 requested Tom Cunningham, an International Representative of the U.A., to direct the merger of their locals. On July 1, 1939, Locals 113 and 211 amalgamated to become known as Local 25, with a total membership of 120 members, which included 16 apprentices. On June 30, 1966, Local 158 of Kewanee merged with Local 25. Local 158 had been chartered on March 13, 1937. Kewanees membership totaled 23 members then. Three years later, on April 1, 1969, Local 411, Dixon-Rock Falls, amalgamated with Local 25. Local 411 had been chartered on October 27, 1913. The Dixon-Rock Falls membership was 119 members. Later that same year, on May 1, 1969, Local 294 from Galesburg, was also amalgamated into Local 25. Local 294 had been chartered on November 2, 1901. The Galesburg area membership was 92 members. It was not until April 1, 1985 that Local 25 merged with Local 161 from Quincy. Local 161 was the oldest charter, dating back to July 1, 1898. The Quincy area membership was then 80 members. The United Association consolidated Local 387 of Davenport, Iowa with Local 25 on May 1, 1998. Local 387 had been chartered on March 1, 1902. This consolidation occurred because of the close proximity and similarity between the markets. At that time, Local 387 had 567 members and Local 25 had 669making Local 25 1236 members strong. In cooperation with the Rock River and Mississippi Valley Mechanical Contractors Association, the Plumbers & Pipefitters Local Union 25 has met the challenge of providing skilled, professional craftsmen. This is the result of comprehensive training programs supported by the United Association and the contractors to meet the needs of an ever-changing industry. The dedication of past and present members and contractors have paved the way for us to become the most highly trained, technologically advanced professionals in the industry for today and tomorrow.
