Local Union 25 making a BIG difference
MOLINE, IL – Plumbers & Pipefitters Local Union 25 presented Big Brothers Big Sisters of the Mississippi Valley a check for $3,000 in a ceremony held at the Union’s home office in Rock Island.
“We raised this money from our annual golf tournament held on September 17th,” stated Local 25 Business Manager Tom McCune. “Over 100 Local 25 members spent a great day playing golf and participating in other activities, all in support of Big Brothers Big Sisters.”
The Plumbers and Pipefitters Local Union 25 members are more than familiar with the Big Brothers Big Sisters program from assisting them with projects like the renovation of their current facility and participating in their mentoring program.
“Organized labor members are a great resource for the kids in our program,” stated Jay Justin Executive Director of the Big Brothers Big Sisters of the Mississippi Valley. “Through their mentorship, kids can see the possibilities in their lives and hopefully a spark will start that will help them achieve success.”
The proceeds from the golf tournament will be used at Denkmann Elementary in Rock Island and at Adams Elementary in Davenport for a School-Based Mentoring Program. In this mentoring program kids meet their “Bigs” at school, either in the classroom or on the playground, making a positive impact on the “Littles” socialization and academic performance.
